Continuing to develop the principles of circular economy in Latvia, AS “BAO” has installed the country’s first stationary construction waste processing complex in Jaunmārupe. The project, worth more than a million euros, allows materials generated during the construction process to be converted into high-value raw materials for road construction and improvement, rather than being disposed of in landfills.
On January 22, 2025, BAO Joint Stock Company signed an agreement with the Central Finance and Contracts Agency for the implementation of project No. 2.2.2.1/1/24/A/006 “Establishment of waste processing facilities”. The project was implemented with co-financing from European Union funds within the framework of the National Development Plan, thus strengthening Latvia’s energy independence and resource efficiency. This investment is a direct step towards global sustainability goals, proving that construction waste is not an unnecessary burden and unusable waste, but a resource.
The new facility, located in a strategically advantageous location near the Riga bypass (23rd km of the Jurmala bypass), is equipped with innovative technologies from the German company Prall-Tec GmbH. Unlike conventional mobile facilities, this complex operates with an electric motor, thereby significantly reducing CO2 emissions and noise levels, ensuring the most environmentally friendly recycling process in the region. The complex is able to effectively recycle concrete, bricks, tiles, wood and metal and other construction waste. As emphasized by the Chairman of the Board of AS “BAO” Māris Kalniņš, the service is available to both large construction companies and private individuals. Customers can apply for the removal of construction waste or deliver it themselves to a recycling point, where it is transformed into valuable materials for reuse in construction.
