Construction waste becomes the resource of the future

Latvia's first stationary construction waste processing complex has been installed in Jaunmārupe. AS BAO converts materials generated during the construction process into high-value raw materials for road construction and improvement.

Until now, concrete blocks, tiles and structures ended up in landfills. Now, thanks to the support of the European Union, construction waste is becoming a resource.

A stationary construction waste processing and sorting facility, unique in the Baltics, has been installed in Jaunmārupe. The investment worth more than a million euros is a significant step in the development of Latvia’s circular economy. The technology of the German manufacturer Prall-Tec GmbH with innovative rotating hammers and a moving wall ensures the extraction of high-value raw materials. The new facility is located in a strategically advantageous location near the Riga bypass and is able to process concrete, bricks, tiles, wood and metal and other construction waste.

1996

ESTABLISHMENT
Joint stock company BAO was founded on December 5, 1996. We have a technical base and qualified personnel to ensure hazardous waste management in the following structural units: Gardene hazardous waste storage facility, Olaine hazardous waste recycling complex and Tume center for processing of electronic devices.
GARDENE HWF
In the former Soviet tank landfill, in the village of Gardene, Dobele region, JSC BAO built a hazardous waste storage facility for safe storage and processing of specific and dangerous waste and also arranges a special field for soil decontamination.

OLAINE PLANT
A/s BAO starts works in Olaine by building a special hazardous waste processing facility for temporary storage of hazardous waste and processing and disposal of various materials.
TUME PLANT
In Tume parish of Tukums county, JSC BAO creates a hazardous waste recycling center for electrical and electronic equipment. In Tume plant JSC BAO stores and recycles used household electronics, batteries, accumulators and fluorescent lamps.

ACID AND ALKALI NEUTRALIZATION REACTOR
JSC BAO acquires a special acid and alkali neutralization equipment – a reactor for neutralizing the sulfuryl chloride waste, which is particularly dangerous for humans, in the amount of several tens of tons, and which is still in use today.

JSC BAO starts offering confidential document destruction service.

BAO-MED 1000
JSC BAO acquires the most powerful medical waste processing equipment BAO-MED 1000 in Latvia, which make possible to recycle most of the healthcare waste generated in the country.

VENTSPILS FREEPORT RECOVERY
JSC BAO participates in one of the first large-scale environmental rehabilitation projects in Ventspils Freeport. In the course of the project, more than 32,000 cubic meters of soil were decontaminated from oil products.

RENOVATION OF THE OLAINE WASTE DUMP
JSC BAO obtained the right to carry out the remediation project announced by the State Environmental Service at the Olaine liquid hazardous waste dump. As a result, an area of almost 3 hectares contaminated with hazardous waste was cleaned.
GROUNDWATER REMEDIATION WORKS IN RIGA
JSC BAO carries out remediation of contaminated groundwaters at the landfill on Augusta Deglava Street, Riga. JSC BAO creates a special network of 50 wells on the territory of 9 hectares and cleans more than 36,000 cubic meters of contaminated underground water.

INCUKALNS TAR POND
JSC BAO is launching the largest remediation work project in Incukalns in Latvia. Using its own innovations and technologies, BAO cleans and processes the South and North ponds of Incukans, which were polluted with sulfuric acid tar, and completely restores the entire contaminated area.
SOIL CLEANING AREA IN GETLINI
JSC BAO establishes a contaminated soil treatment area in the territory of the Getlini waste landfill and starts cleaning the contaminated soil.
